Road accidents: Catholic Bishop tasks FRSC on enforcement of traffic regulations

The Catholic Bishop of Pankshin, Most Rev. Michael Gobum has charged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on the need to sustain aggressive enlightenment and enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

Gobum gave the charge on Tuesday when the FRSC Unit Commander, Pankshin, ACC Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Pankshin LGA of Plateau State.

The Cleric noted that the cannages being experienced within the State especially Plateau Central Senatorial calls for concern.

“I urge you to rise up to the challenge in order to restore driving normalcy on our roads to save the destruction of innocent lives by some of those reckless drivers.

“The way and manner drivers of Sharon, Vectra, and Ford Galaxy in the area speed on the roads and the unwholesome overloading of these vehicles demand urgent attention by FRSC, ’’ the clergy lamented.

The Bishop said the level of impunity being exhibited by some drivers on the local roads demand urgent steps towards arresting and prosecuting such undesirable offenders, wasting innocent lives.

In his earlier remarks, the Unit Commander, Ikeh-Akabogu, had solicited the Bishop’s assistance in educating the catholic congregation in Pankshin on the need to always obey traffic rules and regulations in order to avoid wanton loss of lives.

He intimated the Cleric on the importance of speed “limit device” to be introduced and the need to discard the use of bad tyres on vehicles.
