Some officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning have not been paid their salaries for sixteen months.
The affected officials are those working on the World Bank funded State Employment and Expenditure for Result Project.
The SEEFOR was established as an oversight initiative for the Budget and Economic Planning, with the state government providing counterpart funding.
DAILY POST was at the Ministry within the State Secretariat in Port Harcourt to seek confirmation of the situation but was referred to the SEEFOR office.
However, the SEEFOR staff were unwilling to openly talk about their predicament due to fear of being sacked by their superiors.
Those who managed to speak based on the assurance of confidentiality, affirmed that they had not been paid for over a year.
They suggested that the problem could be due to the failure by the Rivers State Government to meet its obligation of counterpart funding of the SEEFOR.
The respondents appealed to the Rivers State Government to reconsider its position, just as they urged the Federal Government and the World Bank to intervene and save them from hardship.
