The Rivers State PDP governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike and members of his campaign council were over the weekend, allegedly attacked during his campaign rally in Bakana, Degema Local Government Area of the state.

A source said that the hoodlums invaded the PDP rally, shooting sporadically into the air.

The radicals also shot one PDP member dead, leaving several others injured, during the attack.

Wike, his running mate, Ipalibo Banigo, the Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo, and other PDP stalwarts escaped unhurt.

Also, the All Progressives Congress rally which held at Ward 6, Number six Field in the town area of Port Harcourt was disrupted with unknown thugs attacking members of the party with dangerous weapons.

It was gathered that three people have now been hospitalized after being inflicted with machete cuts and broken bottles.

The Secretary of the APC campaign organisation in Port Harcourt city Local government, Charles Ahaolu said, “at the tail end of the rally, some of our members were attacked and as I speak to you, three are lying critically ill in a hospital in Port Harcourt. These hoodlums whisked away a lot of properties belonging to our members in that area.

“It is clear that our security has not been properly activated and I’m saying this without any reservation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State has blamed the attack on its members and supporters during its governorship rally in Bakana, Degema Local Government Area of the state at the weekend on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party has also called on the police to arrest the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Otelemaba Dan-Amachree, over the incident.

This was contained in a statement issued by the state Chairman of PDP, Felix Obuah.

Obuah in the statement signed by his media aide described the attack as “criminal, barbaric and orchestrated by the APC to destabilise the state and derail the elections, having come to the realization that Rivers people have resolved to unanimously vote for the PDP.”

He said the arrest and interrogation of Peterside and Amachree would help the police in their investigation to get all the APC members involved.
