Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has opened his defence before the Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Counsel to the Governor, Okey Wali presented seven witnesses to support the defence against the petitioner’s claim that the governor was not duly elected.

All seven witnesses, mainly serving and retired Civil Servants maintained that elections held on 11th of April.

The witnesses, who appeared as electorates, affirmed that they voted at polling units in Tai, Khana and Andoni Local Government Areas.

However, on cross examination by Counsel to the petitioner, Akin Olujimi, all seven witnesses could not identify witness affidavits shown to them.

All seven witnesses claimed they could not read without optical aids, and that their recommended lenses were not available with them in Court.

The Independent National Electoral Commisson has closed its defence in the case.

On the last day, INEC had no additional witnesses to support its stand.
