Rivers SSG telling lies – Repentant cultists debunk ‘overseas training’ claim by W

All is not well with ex-cultists in Rivers state who embraced the amnesty programme of the state government.

They are challenging the government to publish the names of three hundred former cultists who were “sent to Israel” for training on entrepreneurship.

The demand is being made against the backdrop of information credited to Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Kenneth Kobani.

Kobani had claimed that the government had begun the second phase of the Amnesty Programme, and that about three hundred repentant cultists had been sent overseas for training.

But repentant cultists from Kalabari and Emohua axis of the state have cautioned the Rivers state government from making spurious claims.

They said no leader of the defunct cult groups that embraced the amnesty programme is aware of the any training of their members.

A leader, Toby Diepriye, said “Kenneth Kobani is lying and he will put this government in trouble if he doesn’t stop saying wrong things.”

“We are angry that Kobani will lie to the media about sending our boys to Israel.

“Nobody has been to anywhere. Since we dropped our arms last year, we have not heard anything from the government.”

On his part, Amadi Glory said, “As leaders, we contact ourselves to get updates but nobody has mentioned anything about any training.

“The state government should come and show us proof that they have trained our boys. They even said they gave loans to some our boys. It is not true.”
