Rivers Rerun: INEC denies handing over result sheets to Amaechi, says Wike’s allegation basele

The Independent National Election Commission, INEC, has dismissed claims by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying it handed over original copies of result sheets of the upcoming legislative rerun election in the state to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Rotimi Oyekanmi in a statement on Thursday, described Wike’s allegations as “baseless” and “untrue.”

Recall that Wike had accuse the commission of plotting to rig the December 10 legislative rerun election in the State, adding that the nation’s electoral umpire had handed over result sheets to the Minister. 

Reacting to the allegation, Oyekanmi said, “The Commission hereby asserts that the allegation is baseless and totally untrue.

“The Commission also wishes to assure Nigerians that it will continue to discharge its duties according to the rules governing its mandate, without fear or favour and with a very high sense of responsibility.”
