Primary Health care workers in Rivers State have decided to embark on an indefinite strike following the failure of the Rivers State Government to implement some of their demands.
The demands include the consolidation of the salaries of Health workers structure, payment of salary areas accruing from the consolidated salary structure and the implementation of the senior staff interview result.
The Chairman of the Primary Health Care centres Union, Reuben Wechionu said it was obvious that the Rivers State Government had shown that it was not interested in the welfare of the workers.
“It is an indefinite strike, because two years ago, we embarked on a similar strike and government pleaded with us to suspend and then promised that this issue will be resolved in two weeks.
“Since then, it has been two years and the issues are yet to be resolved.
“Therefore we have resumed the suspended strike and we won’t call off until our demands are meant by Government.
“We are seeking for the immediate implementation of the consolidated health salary structure for primary health care workers in the 23 Local government areas, the payment of the areas accruing from this salary structure, and the payment of a house areas of about of about N270 million, which has already being approved by government for payment several years ago”, he said.
