Rivers police rescues 14 passengers of hijacked bus

The Rivers State Police Command says all those kidnapped by gunmen at the Ndele axis of the East-West road have been rescued.

Spokesman of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni told DAILY POST on telephone that all the tactical units were mobilised by the Commissioner of Police to rescue the victims.

Omoni, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said all fourteen passengers were rescued unhurt.

The Command commended the effort of members of the community where the kidnappers used as their hideouts.

“We have rescued them. It was not easy but we had to go all out. We engaged the people of the community who decided to offer information that helped us rescue the victims.

“All the Tactical Units were activated for this operation with the Commissioner of Police personnaly monitoring the progress.

“I can tell you that all the 14 victims were rescued alive,” he said.

An eighteen passenger bus was on Monday ambushed and hijacked by gunmen along the Ndele-Rumuji axis of the East-West road.
