Rivers: Police foils assassination attempt on lawmaker

There has been an assassination attempt on the life of the Lawmaker representing Ahaoda-East constituency two of Rivers State, Ibiso Nwuche.

This is happening more than ten days after the abduction of the caretaker Chairman of Ahaoda-East Local government area, Cassidy Ikegbidi.

Nwuche at a media briefing in Port Harcourt disclosed that the heavily armed assassins stormed his Port Harcourt home with a plan to kill him.

He said it took the intervention of the police who came to his rescue after many frantic calls were made.

The lawmaker, who sought re-election under the platform of APC in Rivers State, also said the attempt on his life was politically motivated, adding that his family was now traumatised as a result of the attack.

“About 3:15 am, I had gone to sleep with my family, then I heard a loud bang at my protector; before I knew what was happening, I saw armed men and one shouted ‘Joseph shoot, shoot, shoot him!’ Then, I quickly reacted and wrestled. They ran downstairs and started shooting from there for nearly 1hr 45mins but miraculously I and my family were unhurt till the police came at about 5am before they escaped.

“I do not remember hurting anybody so I want to believe it was highly politically motivated,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to focus on Rivers State to help check the unending violence in the state.
