Rivers Police foil robbery, kill two suspects


The Rivers state Police Command says its has foiled a robbery attack on a filling station in the Ogoni area of the state.

The Command in a statement signed by the its Spokesman, Ahmad Kidaya Mohammed said two of the fleeing robbers were killed during a gun duel with the police.

Mohammed said one Emeka Eze was arrested after the police combed the scene of the crime, adding that some weapons including AK-47 rifles were also recovered.

“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that in its ongoing onslaught on criminals has thwarted an armed robbery at a filling station along East-West road by Etohu in Tai Local Government.

“On Wednesday 13/01/2016 at about 3:30 pm, team of policemen on a tip off stormed the robbery scene. The armed robbers who on sensing the police were approaching them fled the scene.

“As the police gave them hot chase, a gun duel ensued and in the process two (2) of the armed robbers were fatally wounded while others escaped with gunshot wounds after they were overpowered by the overwhelming fire power of the police.

“One fleeing armed robber namely Emeka Eze 28 years was later arrested following immediate combing of bush around the scene.

“Items recovered from them include one (1) AK 47 rifle, one (1) magazine and 20 (twenty) rounds of 7.62 live ammunition”.
