The Rivers State Police Command says its ban on the use of fireworks still subsists.

The command re-iterated its earlier warning in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad.

While calling on parents and guardians to control their wards, Mahammad said the use of knock outs and fireworks created panic, thereby agitating the public.

The command warned that anyone caught flouting the order of the police would be punished.

It reads: “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to remind members of the public that the subsisting ban on the use of fireworks and blasting of knockout is still in full force.

“It is a common knowledge that Yuletide period is usually associated with fireworks and knockout blasting.

“The Command found it pertinent to remind members of the public to desist from such anti public propensity capable of creating public panic which may likely pose a threat to the existing public peace and security enjoyed in the State.

“Corporate entities and individuals are by this release urged to ensure strict adherence to the ban while parents/guardians are advice to prevail on their children/wards to desist from the blast of knockouts as anyone arrested flouting the ban will face the full wrath of the law.

“Consequently, members of the public are hereby enjoined to report any entity or individual violating on the use of fireworks and knockout blasting to the nearest Police Station or call the following Police distress phone lines: 08032003514, 08028915460, 08028915462 and 08160723892, please”.
