The Police in Rivers state have averted what may have been a communal clash between Rumuekini and Ogbogoro cummunities in Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers state.
Youths from Ogbogoro were said to have invaded Rumuekini community leaving many properties destroyed and some residents injured.
DAILY POST gathered that the invasion was a reprisal to the killing of an indigene of Ogbogoro, Heaven Ihun-Igwe, whose body was found at the boundary between Rumuekini and Aluu.
Meanwhile, the people of Rumuekini are calling on the Rivers State Government and security agencies to wade into the disturbing development.
Community Development Committee Chairman of Rumuekini, Felix Amadi told newsmen that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the invasion.
He said discovering of the corpse of Heaven Ihun-Igwe does not indicate he was killed by Rumuekini people.
“How could we have spilled the blood of our own brother. How is that possible?
“Our communities are far apart. We don’t share common boundary. We don’t have any tussle whatsoever.
“We want the Police to come and tell us what happened”.
Other leaders of the Community including Secretary of the CDC, and the Youth Leader, said there are fears that youths from Ogbogoro may return to Rumuekini.
However, the People of Ogbogoro Community have given the people of Rumuekini seven days ultimatum to relevant authorities to produce the killers of their son.
Speaking on behalf of council of Chiefs and elders, the Paramount ruler of Ogbogoro, Eze Harrisson Okeah dismissed allegations by Rumuekini that thugs from Ogbogoro invaded their community or inflicted wounds on residents.
