Rivers: Police arrest 104 suspects over election offences

The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested a number of suspects caught committing different levels of crime during the 2015 general elections in the state.

The Police also said Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, ballot papers and boxes were some of the items recovered from the suspects.

In a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ahamad Mohammad, the command noted that the police has commenced covert investigation on the suspects.

The statements reads: “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that while living up to its constitutional mandate of policing the recently concluded 2015 elections in the state, it has arrested some suspects for various alleged offences.

“Accordingly, the Command is discreetly investigating 41 different cases involving 104 suspects arrested on the election days from different parts of the state. The suspects were arrested for alleged offences against the Electoral Act 2010 or other extant laws of the Nation.

“Items recovered from the suspects include multiple permanent voter cards (PVC), offensive weapons and electoral materials including ballot papers and boxes.

“The suspects will soon be arraigned before the court of law immediately investigations are concluded. “
