The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has expressed disappointment over the opening of a parallel PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt by loyalists of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The secretary of the party, Ibibia Walter, who addressed the media in Port Harcourt said it was illegal and provocative for Governor Amaechi who was a product of the law in 2007 to disobey court ruling on the PDP executive in the state.
He called for the prosecution of those involved in the attempt to float a parallel secretariat.
According to the statement, “The attention of the peoples Democratic party, PDP, in Rivers State has been drawn to the attempt by some misguided elements in the state to open a parallel secretariat of the party in the state, an action that portrays the lawless disposition of neophytes in politics.
“The constitution of the Peoples Democratic party does not recognise the acronym ‘New PDP’ or ‘NPDP’.
“The affront and insipidity of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi got to a high point once again in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state Capital. For the umpteenth time, Gov. Amaechi displayed his flagrant dishonour and utmost disrespect to the person and office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“In 2009 when a similar action was to be carried out, the same Governor ordered for the arrest of the perpetrators and charged them for cultism and illegal assemblage”.
Walter berated governor Amaechi for allegedly accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of being responsible to the alleged blockade of Government house entrance, maintaining that the state chapter of the party would resist any attempt that was capable of splitting it.
It added, “The peace loving, respectful and respectable people of Rivers State can no longer fold our arms and close our eyes to these uncouth, uncultured and ill mannered actions of Gov. Amaechi aimed at besmirching our president and leader of our great party”.
In his contribution, the Director General, state PDP secretariat, Emeka Wuke while denying the alleged blockade of Governor Amaechi’s convoy to Government House, accused the Governor of complicity in the Rivers crises.
