Some women receiving treatment at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, BMSH, have staged a protest over the poor state of facilities in the hospital.

The women who are mostly nursing mothers decried the poor state of the hospital, saying they stand a health risk if nothing is done urgently.

Some respondents who spoke with newsmen said a woman lost her baby in the incubator because of lack of power supply.

They called on the Rivers State Government and the Management of BMH to improve quality of service in the State owned hospital.

One of them said, “I am a nursing mother and my baby is in the incubator. For three days now the hospital has not had light. We lost a baby there yesterday because there was no light. No water, no light, everything is just anyhow yet we pay for everything that they use there. There is nothing we don’t pay for. ”

One of the parent who lost his infant simply identified as Tammy told DAILY POST that, “I lost my baby because there is no light. I have spent over three hundred thousand naira on my wife’s pregnancy till she gave birth to this baby only to lose him in the BMH. What will I tell God?”

When contacted, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers state Ministry of Health, Caroline Wali said the baby could not have died because of the lack of power supply.

Wali said the State government was working on the three generators in the hospital.

“The baby may have died as a result of infection or even complication. The baby could not have died in the incubator,” she said.
