Rivers Legislative election petition tribunal may be relocated to Abuja

There are strong indications that the National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal set up to hear grievances arising from the March 19 re-run elections held in Rivers state may be relocated to Abjua.

This follows a petition “written by some members of the APC who are alleging threat to their lives if the tribunal remains in Port harcourt,” a reliable source told DAILY POST.

It will interest you to know that there has been persistent killing of members of the APC in Rivers state with the most recent reports from Ogoni where one Piale Silas was killed in Khana local government and the murder of a senior lecturer of the Rivers state Polytechnic, Vincent Elvis Eebee also in the ogoni axis of the state.

The source (name withheld) said power brokers within the All Progressives Congress, APC are making frantic efforts to pressure the Federal government to relocate the tribunal to Abuja.

Meanwhile, DAILY POST can authoritatively report that the Secretary of the Rivers state NASS and State Assembly Tribunal, Suraju Gusau has been invited to Abuja to clarify issues raised in the petition.

In the meantime, two more petitions have been filed at the National and State Assembly election petition tribunal in Port Harcourt.

Former Chief of Staff to former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, Tony Okocha of the All Progressives Congress, APC, filed his petition challenging the victory of Okey Chinda of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Obio-Akpor Federal constituency seat.

In the same vein, Brave Wobo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA is challenging the election of Ken Chikere of the PDP for the Port Harcourt federal constituency 1 seat.

This brings the total of twelve petitions now filed before the election tribunal to fourteen.

The tribunal is yet to fix a date for its inaugural sitting.
