The National Executive Council of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has directed all members of the union in Rivers State to resume work on Monday 2nd February, 2015.
The Rivers State Chapter of the Judiciary workers has been on an indefinite strike for the past eight months on the issues bordering on victimization and insecurity of its members.
Meanwhile, the National Secretary of JUSUN, Kayode Igbarago at a media briefing in Port Harcourt said the decision to call off the strike was reached after the National Executive Council of JUSUN considered the negative impact of the strike on lawyers and litigants in Rivers state.
While appreciating the Senator Cyrus Nunieh-led mediatory committee, the National Leadership of JUSUN also commended the Rivers State government, the Nigerian Bar Association and other stakeholders in all efforts to ensure that. the courts were reopened.
DAILY POST reports that the courts including the State High Courts, the Customary Courts and the Magistrate courts are all expected to be opened on Monday.
Igbarago said, “The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria at her National Executive Council meeting held on Monday 26th day of January, 2015 at Supreme Court, Abuja reviewed the nearly eight month old strike embarked upon by the Rivers State branch of the Union.
“We hereby direct all our members to resume work on Monday, the 2nd February, 2015.
“Furthermore, it was resolved that no staff or member of the union shall be victimized as a result of the industrial action.
“We, therefore, use this medium to call on relevant stakeholders to take advantage of this gesture and see to the immediate resolution of the crisis rocking the Rivers Judiciary. We also urge our members to remain resolute to the struggle while we appreciate all who has in one way or the other assisted in the facilitation of the resolution of the crisis”.
