The Majority Leader of the River State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd has been granted bail by a Port Harcourt High Court. Lloyd was granted bail with the sum of N10 million with three sureties.
According to the court, two of the sureties shall be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and must also own landed properties, adding that the third surety must be a senior public servant.
The court equally held that Lloyd’s international passport will be under its custody throughout the period of his trial.
Meanwhile, Lloyd’s counsel, Beluolisa Nwofor has told the court to quash all charges leveled against him.
Speaking to newsmen, Nwofor expressed gladness at the decision of the court, noting that the bail granted to his client was long over due.
According to him, “our long fight to get bail for Honourable Chidi Lloyd has finally been granted. The learned Judge has ordered the authorities to release him on bail pending his trial”.
The court presided over by Justice Latan Nyordee fixed 21st of November, 2013 for the trial of the embattled lawmaker.
After the court proceedings, Chidi Lloyd was moved out of the court premises which generated negative reactions from the crowd.
Reports say the police might be on the verge of handing the Lawmaker over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
