Rivers Guber: Tonye Princewill dumps PDP, picks LP ticket

In response to the call by the Rivers people for an Ijaw/Ogoni Governor, one of the leading aspirants in the race, Prince Tonye Princewill has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Labour Party, LP, and has picked Rivers state governorship ticket under the party’s platform.

DAILY POST has it on good authority that LP has at the moment formed a coalition with two other parties in order to give it the needed boost to win the governorship race in the state come 2015.

Tonye’s media team has confirmed this development, but has promised to furnish the public with details in a statement that would be released soon.

However, in a terse statement confirming the development this morning, the media team said ” “Prince Tonye Princewill picks Labour Party ticket for Rivers state Governor. Forms coalition with two other parties; responds to people’s will for an Ijaw/Ogoni ticket and promises to win for the masses come 2015.”

DAILY POST recalls that Tonye and 16 aggrieved aspirants recently boycotted the Rivers PDP governorship primaries after it was alleged that the party was imposing former Minister of State for Education, Nysom Wike on Rivers people. The election which saw Wike emerging as the party’s candidate for the election held amid serious protest as the aggrieved candidates stayed away from the primaries.

It would be recalled further that Prince Tonye immediately responded to the development, highlighting few available options for him and his supporters. One of the options, according to him was to dump PDP for another party and continue to pursue his political ambition.

Here him” My question is do I give them a different choice? What do I do? Since my mission is not for my benefit, let me ask those who I want to serve. Your wish is my command.

“To run or not to run? That is the question.

“After a close examination, here are the options before us:

“1. Join the Labour Party, APGA or the PDM.

2. Accept the imposition and stay quiet in the party.

or

3. Quit politics altogether.

“I have consulted my political associates and option 1 is their overwhelming favourite. They have even gone as far as mentioning the party I should join. But I am not just a politician, I am a mentor and an inspiration to many, so my consultations will have to go far far wider. I need to hear from friends, family and others as well. Besides it comes with huge financial and personal sacrifice. Not just from me, but from my supporters. I am ready if required, but are you?.
