The Abia state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has congratulated the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on his landslide victory in the just-concluded governorship election in the South-south state.
DAILY POST reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was on Wednesday declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The State Returning Officer, Deputy Vice -Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Professor Teddy Addia, declared that Governor Wike poll 886,264 votes to defeat his closest rival, Biokpomabo Awara of the AAC, who polled one hundred and seventy-three thousand, eight hundred and nine votes.
Abia PDP, while reacting in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday, by its Publicity Secretary, Don Ubani, asserted that “It equally confirms the fact that with exceptional good performance, a governor will always be capable of scaling any hurdle, irrespective of federal might or any militarized gang-up, to get re-elected.
“PDP in Abia State also wishes to thank the good people of Rivers State for their steadfastness and resilience in the wake of anti-democratic onslaught on them, fruitlessly targeted at intimidating them not to allow their collective will prevail.
“PDP in Abia State acknowledges the resoluteness of the Independent National Electoral Commission to be guided by democratic ethos in the discharge of her responsibilities.”
