Rivers Guber: PDP finally clears Tonye Princewill

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has finally cleared Tonye Princewill to contest the Rivers State governorship primary election.

The aspirant had earlier raised alarm that the South-South governorship screening committee of the ruling party had truncated his ambition on the ground that he and some other aspirants were not PDP members.

Those allegedly screened out from the race for the party’s governorship ticket included Prince Tonye Princewill, Nimi Walson Jack, Bekinbo Dagogo Jack, and Dumo Lulu Briggs.

However, latest development has it that the aspirant has finally been cleared and could now join the rat race to the government house come 2015.

In a statement issued on Thursday, by Princewill’s media team, the aspirant thanked his friends and well wishers for prayers and supports during the hard times.

The statement reads: “Disqualification has been lifted. Prince Tonye T.J.T Princewill has finally been cleared. Thanks for your prayers and your goodwill messages to run for Governor no matter what. They worked. He listened. They obeyed. Justice was done. This is a great start!!

“But PDP still needs to do a little bit more. The national leadership has shown that money is not everything and the people’s voices do matter. Keep up with your praying!!! Miracles do really happen. Even the largest party in Africa has just heard your voice”, he added.

DAILY POST observed that there has been serious cracks in the race for the party’s governorship ticket since the conclusion of the November 1 ward congresses of the party, with 16 out of the 17 governorship aspirants accusing the leadership of the party in the state and the national leadership appointed electoral and appeal committees of doing the bidding of one of the aspirants, Nyesom Wike.
