The 3 major candidates contesting next month’s governorship election in Rivers State have signed an undertaken before the US Ambassador to Nigeria to ensure a violent free election.
The Governorship Candidates, who signed the peace pact are Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress, Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party and Tonye Princewill of the Labour Party.
The US Ambassador, James Entwistle speaking at the event in Port Harcourt said the peace agreement was part of the US government’s commitment to a peaceful post election era in Nigeria.
The 3 governorship candidates in their separate speeches also pledged commitment towards implementing the peace deal.
The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan who witnessed the event, told DAILY POST that the undertaken would go a long way in ensuring a hitch free polls next month.
This is the first time since the creation of Rivers State that the major contenders in a governorship election would be made to sign a peace deal before the election.
