A Federal High Court in Abuja, has dismissed a suit by the African Action Congress (AAC), questioning the propriety of handling of the last governorship and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.
AAC in the suit kicked against the announcement of the results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his judgment on Tuesday, said since the case was election-related, it was appropriate for the plaintiffs to take their case before an election tribunal.
Justice Ekwo held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to stop the electoral body, from performing its constitutional duties.
He consequently ordered INEC to go ahead with the collation and announce the winner of the election.
DAILY POST recalls that the AAC governorship candidate in Rivers, Biokpomabo Awara, had urged the court to stop INEC from concluding the collation and announcement of the result.
Awara insisted he was the clear winner of the March 9 election, having won 15 of the 23 local government areas in the state.
