The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pointed accusing fingers at the ruling All Progressives Congrss (APC), for the widespread violence that marred the March 9 governorship and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.
According to PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, APC unleashed violence in the state, despite being barred by the court of law from contesting in the elections.
“The situation in Rivers State is sad and pathetic.
“The @OfficialAPCNg, despite being barred by the court of law from contesting the elections, unleashed all manner of violence against the people in an attempt to subvert their will, including militarization of the election,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had suspended all electoral processes in Rivers State until further notice.
In a statement on Sunday, INEC explained that they took the decision due to widespread violence in the state during the March 9 governorship and State Assembly polls.
The commission also claimed some of its staff were held hostage and materials including results sheets were destroyed.
INEC has established a fact-finding committee, to assess the situation and report back within 48 hours.
