Rivers election re-run: Wike threatens INEC officials

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has warned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, who will be sent to conduct the re-run elections in the state against acting “funny”, threatening that he hopes any of them who wants to compromise the elections “must have written his Will”.

Wike, who spoke at a seminar organised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Port Harcourt, claimed that his party has uncovered a purported plot by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government rig the re-run elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to him, “We are not afraid of any re-run at all. But we have always said if they said there should be a re-run, let it be a re-run and not to write the result in Abuja and then tell us that there was a re-run because we will not take it.

“PDP has been a peaceful party. There is a grand conspiracy to take-over Rivers state and they know for what purpose it is.

“So, those of you who they have said they should come back for election for the National Assembly don’t be afraid.

“Let them bring anybody as INEC official from anywhere that wants to be funny, I wish the person must have written his Will before he comes,” Wike said.

Reacting to the Governor’s remark, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside warned against acts that may lead to violence and bloodletting in the planned re-run elections in Rivers State.

Peterside reminded Governor Wike that the lives of Rivers people are too precious.

He said further loss of innocent lives as a result of reckless comments by those in power at the moment will be resisted.
