The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, says it is doing everything within its ability to ensure stability in the distribution and sale of petroleum products.
Zonal Operations-Controller of DPR, Port Harcourt, Chioma Njoku gave this assurance at a meeting with officers of the department and members of the media in Port Harcourt.
Njoku said the department is working with all relevant agencies including security operatives to manage the fuel situation in Rivers state.
The DPR boss warned that spot marketing, bulk marketing and petroleum hawking are punishable offences adding that security agencies have been directed to clamp-down on defaulters.
She said the department is also battling with the problem of impersonation, adding that the DPR is trying to fashion out a way for the public to differentiate between DPR officials and impersonators.
“We are ontop of the situation. We are doing everything possible to make sure that we don’t suffer scarcity in this zone. We are working with all security agencies who are also playing their own roles. But I have to tell you, it is not easy. We face a lot of challenges in this zone. But be rest assured, we will summount them,” she said.
The Operations-Controller of DPR Port Harcourt also called for a partnership with the media to educate the public about the challenges of fuel scarcity and the role of the Department of Petroleum Resources in the zone.
