Rivers Deputy Governor attacked at RSHA Complex

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, was today attacked by irate thugs at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, at about 12.26hours.

He was at the House of the Assembly to present the amendments to the 2013 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly on behalf of the Executive Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

On his way out after making the presentation thugs who flooded the complex in their multitudes chanting war songs in support of a member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi, descended on the Deputy Governor on sighting him.

His official car was badly damaged while other cars in his convoy also sustained some damage. Members of his entourage were also attacked and had to escape by running on foot out of the scene of the incident.

On his part, Hon. Evans physically assaulted the Channels Television cameraman and wrestled his video camera from him.

Some top government functionaries at the scene regretted the way the lawmaker conducted himself, lamenting that he has brought into utter disrepute the exalted office of an elected lawmaker.
