Rivers: Court refuses to grant bail to traditional ruler

The Paramount Ruler of Rumuepirikom, Eze Anthony Owabie has been refused bail by a Federal High court in Port Harcourt.

The defending council, Emenike Ebete had filed a bail application stating that the crime for which the accused is being charged is a bail able offence.

Trial Judge, Justice Uche Agommuo who gave the ruling said the bail application is refused in the interest of Eze Owabie and the community.

The Judge also stated that Eze Owabie need to be shielded from the community because of his safety and therefore should remain in detention.

Justice Agommuo however assured that the trial will be given accelerated hearing to allow for speedy dispensation on justice.

Reacting to the ruling, Emenike Ebete, who is the counsel representing the paramount ruler told newsmen that he is not discouraged by the ruling.

Dailypost reports that the court chose four consecutive dates of 3rd, 10th, 11th and 12th of November to commence definite trial.

Eze Anthony Owabie of Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers State was arrested on the 13th of August and charged for illegal possession of fire arms.
