Rivers Assembly screens caretaker committee chairmen‎ for council areas

The Rivers State House of Assembly has screened 20 Local Government Caretaker Committee nominees.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Daboturudima Adams on Thursday in Port Harcourt expressed satisfaction at the performance of the nominees during screening.

“A good number of the nominees have shown confidence in their ability to key into the peace move by the state government.

“I urge you all, when sworn-in, to ensure partnership with traditional rulers, since the issue of security cannot be effectively handled by one person.”

Adams said that the House Committee on Local Government would consistently update the assembly on local government affairs.

Continuing he said, “We cannot condone any act from any chairman that will not move the LGA forward and you must know there is a House Committee Chairman on Local Government affairs.

”Anything short of the expectation of Rivers people, you will face the lawmakers again.”

”As you are waiting to be sworn in, know that it is no longer business as usual,” he said.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have passed the Executive Bill seeking to amend the number of years of professorship required for the appointment of the vice chancellor of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education to 10 years.
