The Rivers state House of Assembly has said it is investigating the comments made by member representing Ahaoda-East constituency 1, Martins Mannah, against the Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Owaji Igbani.
The member representing Ahaoda East constituency 1, Martins Mannah had asked for the resignation of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikunyi Owaji Ibani over allegations of bad administration.
The Assembly also said the outcome of the investigation will determine its next line of action.
However, House leader, Martins Amaewhule who denied that the Speaker ever received six hundred million Naira, added that no one is being owed any salary or allowance.
Amaewhule further downplayed reports that there are grievances among members of the Assembly.
He said members of the Rivers state House of Assembly have confidence in the Speaker, Ikunyi Owaji Igbani.
“We are going to release a list of motions moved by members of this Assembly. If there’s any staff or any legislative aide who said he has not been paid his or her salary, let the person come out.
“Whatever is the due of members, they are getting it up to the least, including Martins Mannah himself. So when somebody comes and says they are suffering. Suffering how?
“Another point is there was no Six Hundred Million Naira anywhere. The Speaker never received such an amount from anybody.
“So many things are being written and so many things have been aired. So we are investigating the one he said and the one he did not say before we know what next to do. In the meantime, I want to say we are happy with the Speaker and members are united in one course,” he said.
