Amaechi
The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a resolution asking former Governor Rotimi Amaechi to submit a handover note to his successor, Governor Nyesom Wike.
The motion was sponsored by the member representing Degema constituency, Hon. Farah Dagogo.
During a debate on the motion, the lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction over Amaechi’s alleged negligence to the tenets of democracy.
According to Farah, “Part of our oversight is to prevent people and institutions from doing the wrong thing. If we fail to do this, we are setting a bad precedence in the state.
“This is why this motion is exigent, considering the fact that the past administration failed to give a handover note.
“As it stands now, the current position of finances is unknown because we don’t have these information.
“The state needs the handover note so we can properly plan what is good for the state. Transition is an important part of the constitution,” he said.
The House, however, directed the Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Emma Aguma to take legal steps to follow up the House resolution.
The House of Assembly said the handover note will allow the current Executive assess the investments and liabilities of the Rivers State.
In another development, House has accused the wife of former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi of hijacking constituency projects meant for members of the seventh Assembly.
The Legislators said Amaechi’s Wife, Dame Judith used her pet project, the Empowerment Support Initiative, to grab projects meant to be carried out by Lawmakers in the 7th Assembly.
The House has subsequently ordered the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, the Director of Finance and the Director in charge of constituency projects also in the ministry to appear before the Assembly for questioning.
