Rivers Assembly approves sack of 6 RSIEC members

The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the removal of some members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had in a letter to the Assembly requested for the removal and replacement of some members of the RSIEC based on a security report indicting them.

Debating on the Governor’s request, some members said the RSIEC members should be sacked, adding that Governor Wike’s decision was in the interest of the state.

Speaker of the Assembly, Ikunyi Owaji-Igbani in his pronouncement announced the sack of Chimaraoke Mgba, Kombo Johnson, Igbanam Martins, Robinson Lulu and Juliet Berewari, Kingsley Ogobundu.

He said the sacked members were members of political parties which was not meant to be.

“We will jeopardize our democracy if we allow partisan people to occupy unbiased offices. The Governor cannot be wrong on the security report against these officials.

“I have felt the pulse of the House and I can safely say that we all want the best for our state”, he said.
