Rivers Amnesty: Hundreds of cultist surrender; one AK-47 rifle, charms recovered

Over 200 of youths in Rundele Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers state have denounced their membership from the two cult groups in the Community.

The two cult groups, who sonorously chanted their cult slangs, surrendered one AK-47 rifle to the Rivers State Amnesty Committee.

Other weapons surrendered by the cult groups include several pieces of locally made guns, machetes, axes, live ammunitions and charms.

The exercise was the first in the disarmament phase of the Rivers State Government Amnesty Programme.

Chairman of the Amnesty Committee, Kenneth Chinda, while proclaiming Amnesty on the repentant cultists, warned that “the Amnesty Programme does not cover anyone who is still hoarding weapons.”

He advised the cult groups to resist been recruited by Politicians to rig elections.

Spokespersons for the two cult groups appealed to the Rivers State Government and Security Agencies to pardon their former colleagues who are in detention and begged the people to forgive their wrong doings.
