Rio 2016 Olympics: Onye wins gold for Nigeria in women’s shot put

Nigeria has won yet another gold medal at the ongoing 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil, through Lauritta Onye in the shot put f40.

Her first throw of 7.83m, saw her break her world record of 7.72m, set at the 2015 IPC World Athletics Championships in Doha.

Onye’s second throw hit the 7.54m mark, while her third attempt went one centimeter further.

She eventually clinched gold with 8.40m on her fourth attempt.

It is the first gold Team Nigeria will win in athletics at the competition and the seventh in total.
