Captain Neymar Jnr. scored the winning penalty, to ensure Brazil won their first ever gold in men’s football at the Olympic Games.
The game finished 1-1 in extra time.
Neymar opened the scoring in the first half with a free-kick, but Max Meyer equalized for the Germans in the second half from the spot.
There were no further goals in the encounter and it had to be decided via the lottery of penalties.
Nils Peterson saw his effort saved by Weverton, before the Barcelona forward stepped up to write history for the hosts.
