Members of Omoyele Sowore-led ‘Revolution Now Movement ‘ in Osun State have carpeted the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly subjecting some of their members, who were arrested during protest on Monday to serious torture and intimidation.
Speaking with DAILY POST on Tuesday evening, a leading member of the group, Comrade Afolabi Oladayo, said two members of the group, who were arrested by the secret agency, were Olawale Adebayo and Lekan Olanipekun are presently under torture and starvation in the last 30 hours.
DAILY POST reports that members of the group, who were in Osogbo for a peaceful protest on Monday were violently accosted and brutalised, including a 70-year-old ‘Fufu’ hawker, who was with the protesting youths.
According to Oladayo, seven members of the group were confirmed being arrested, with two of them presently with DSS while the other five are in policy custody.
He said some members of the group, alongside their legal team, led by Barrister Ayo Onibokun visited DSS’s office located along Gbongan road in the early hours of Tuesday, adding that unlike the other five with police, the two members were not allowed to eat and also subjected to serious torture.
He stressed that the health of the duo could deteriorate beyond control if nothing is being done quickly to ameliorate their terrible condition.
” It is indeed regrettable that our nation is failing without any sign of redemption. Unfortunately, the very democratic government that had been the focal point of agitation by majority of Nigerians is dragging the nation to political Armageddon.
“We watched in astonishment how security agents ran from criminals that have taken over virtually all the communities in Nigeria and stopped to descend on innocent youths , who were clamouring for better society that will guarantee greatest happiness to the greatest number of people.
” The whole world was amazed how peaceful protesters in Osun were violently attacked by operatives of DSS and police yesterday, and the level of brigandage displayed while trying to stop unarmed Nigerians from exercising their fundamental human rights.
“It is even worse when two of our members who are presently with DSS have not been allowed to eat, and also being violently tortured like common criminals.
“We demand for quick intervention of the highest echelon of DSS to quickly call the Osun command to order and thwart any untoward occurrence towards our members.
“We make bold to reiterate our conviction to continue to fight and demand for better Nigerian society against this charade”, he resorted.
