Reversal of UNILORIN ASUU chair, scribe a victory for justice – LAUTECH

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola, University of Technology (LAUTECH) on Wednesday described the reinstatement of the Chairman and Secretary of the union at the University of Ilorin as a big victory to justice.

DAILY POST gathered that appointments of the Chairperson and the Secretary of ASUU, UNILORIN branch, Dr. Kayode Afolayan and Dr. Solomon Oyelekan were illegally terminated by the administration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali on 19th September, 2017.

But, after a year legal battle, the National Industrial Court sitting in Akure presided over by Justice Abiola Adewemimo on Tuesday declared the termination of the appointments as illegal and therefore reinstated the two officers.

However, LAUTECH ASUU Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Biodun Olaniran and Dr. Toyin Abegunrin while reacting, described the reinstatement as a big victory to justice.

The duo in a statement entitled, “Reversal of Dismissal of UNILORIN ASUU officers: A Victory of Justice”, said “On the 19th September, 2017 the appointments of the Chairperson and Secretary of ASUU, UNILORIN branch, Dr. Kayode Afolayan and Dr. Solomon Oyelekan, respectively were illegally terminated by the administration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali.

“After a year long legal battle and the attendant hardships including psychological and emotional trauma meted on the duo of Dr. Kayode Afolayan and Dr. Solomon Oyelekan, the National Industrial Court sitting in Akure and presided over by Justice Abiola Adewemimo has declared the termination of the appointments as illegal and therefore reinstated the two officers.

“The reinstatement of the affected officers by a court of competent jurisdiction is a big victory to justice which is being perpetually perverted at the University of Ilorin. It is a big victory for ASUU too.

“It also serves as a big signals to University administrators who have become dictators that it doesn’t take the truth a moment to uncover lies of any age. Our University administrators in the shoes of Prof. Alkali, who have become dictatorial in their conduct of victimising law abiding officers of their Universities should learn from this judgement.

“Our members are also being called upon to be abiding to the principles and regulations of the Union irrespective of whatever we are passing through.

“ASUU is a law abiding organisation that always stay with his members who are law abiding. Whatever injustice or victimisation any member is suffering at any level, the Union is always there pursuing the course of justice within the ambient of the law. Aluta continua Victoria ascerta.”
