Kayode Fayemi
Members of the Ekiti State Executive Council could not eat their meals after Governor Kayode Fayemi announced the dissolution of the cabinet on Wednesday.
The SEC is usually made up of Commissioners and Special Advisers.
DailyPost gathered that the majority of the officials who had no prior knowledge of the development, had gone into the meeting which usually hold at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office, thinking it would be a normal cabinet parley.
They were however shocked after the announcement, as they abandoned the various delicacies that had been prepared for them and quickly left the venue of the meeting looking disappointed.
A source said: “Immediately the governor completed all the issues on the agenda and it was time to eat, he announced the dissolution of the cabinet. The commissioners could not eat their food and some of them had to leave hurriedly.”
The Governor in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, Governor Fayemi communicated the decision to members of the council during Wednesday’s meeting at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.
He directed the commissioners and special advisers to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries. He also praised them for their support to the administration, adding that the dissolution and the re-constitution that would follow were aimed at “revitalising the administration and positioning it for greater performance.”
Fayemi noted that, “This is a moment of change and transformation in all that we are doing. This is not a statement about an individual not pulling their weight enough.”
Analysts say the Governor may have taken the step with the forthcoming governorship election in mind.
A source familiar with the state politics told DailyPost that “Fayemi as we know will contest for a fresh mandate. Undoubtedly, he sacked the cabinet so he can constitute a new team that will support his re-election bid.”
“A few of the outgoing officials who I think are loyal will return you’ll see,” he added.
The Governor is expected to announce a new cabinet in the coming days.
