There is tension in Abeokuta as two rival groups in Ago-Oko area of Ogun State capital are engaging themselves in a bloody street fight.

DAILY POST gathered that the two groups, known in the area as Mafia and Ago-Oko boys, had been at loggerheads for a long time.

On Monday, the supremacy battle took a new twist as the two groups occupied the street with matchets and other dangerous weapons, while also vandalising goods displayed for sale.

A resident of the area told our correspondent that members of the two groups sustained various degrees of injuries.

Our source added that “one of them is almost dead.”

Contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“We got the information and we have immediately deployed our men to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents of the area said quite a number of people were arrested by policemen.

The fracas was said to have paralysed business activities in the area as people fled.
