The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has stated that they were yet to be officially informed about the death of late Buba Jibril, who was until his demise the Deputy Majority Leader in the House of Representatives.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Kogi State, Prof. James Apam made this known on Wednesday.

Late. Honorable Buba Jibril died on March 29, 2018 reportedly due to complications of diabetes. Until his death, he represented Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Apam said that till date the House of Representative is yet send an official letter informing INEC about a vacant post in the chamber.

He added, “As a law abiding citizen of the country, we have to wait until we are officially informed that there is a vacancy in the House before we can commence the process of conducting a by-election to fill the position.”

INEC’s explanation is coming on the heel of a by-election held in Oyo State to fill the position of the state’s House of Assembly Speaker who died a month after Buba.
