The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has announced the removal of Abdulmumin Jibrin from Kano State as the chairman of the House Committee Chairman on Appropriations.
He was promptly replaced with the House Chairman on Housing, Mustapha Bala Dawaki also from Kano State and member of the majority All Progressives Congress, APC.
While announcing Jibrin’s replacement, Dogara explained that Jibrin had requested for his removal from the Committee, hence, the change.
Recall that the Kano-born lawmaker as Chairman of Appropriations was accused of adding some constituency projects worth over N4 billion in the 2016 budget. This claim led to the clamour for his removal but Dogara was said to have protected him on account of the role Jibrin played in his emergence as Speaker.
“He (Jibrin) came to me and said he cannot do it any more and that the pressure was on him,” the Speaker told his colleagues on Wednesday.
