Reps demand to be briefed on PWC audit report on NNPC

The House of Representatives has requested to be “fully” briefed by the federal government on the forensic audit report of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) carried out by PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC).

It would be recalled that last year’s claim by the then Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Lamido Sanusi Lamido, that the NNPC defaulted to remit $20 billion to the federation account ultimately led government to contract PWC to audit the corporation’s account.

Meanwhile, Sanusi had later pegged the missing amount at $12 billion.

By the time the audit report was presented to President Goodluck Jonathan on February 3, 2015, NNPC wasted no time in rushing to the press to claim that the abridged version released to the public had exonerated it for any wrongdoing.

However, Minority Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday reminded his colleagues that the National Assembly was yet to be briefed as regards what is contained in the report. He therefore moved for the government to make the full report available to the legislature.

According to him, “The national assembly has not been briefed with regard to the content of the report.

“The house resolves that the federal government make the report available to it,” he said.

Following the Minority Leader’s submission, the house then put the motion to a voice vote, for which the louder response supported the demand for it to be availed the full report of the probe.

Meanwhile, the House has adjourned its sitting to February 24.
