The House of Representatives has recommitted the Peace Corps bill and three other bills which President Muhammadu Buhari did not assent to.
The other bills are: Terrorism (Prohibition and Prevention) Bill, 2019, Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (Establishment) Bill, 2019 (HB. 57); and National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Persons Bill, 2019.
The decision followed a motion moved by Muhammed Monguno (APC, Borno) on Wednesday.
The motion is entitled: Reconsideration of Outstanding Bills from the Preceding Assembly, Pursuant to Order Twelve, Rule 16 of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.
It would be recalled that President Buhari had declined assent to the Peace Corps bill but it was re-introduced to the House in the 9th Assembly
Speaking on the motion, Monguno, who came under Order 12 rule 16, said, “that the aforementioned Bills were passed by the preceding Assembly and forwarded to the President for assent but for which assent or withholding thereof was not communicated before the end of the tenure of the last Assembly.”
The House, therefore, resolved to commit the bills to committee of the whole, which means second reading and committee stage, will not be necessary.
