Reps commence investigation into JTF activities

The House of Representatives on Tuesday commenced investigation into activities of the Joint Military Task Force, JTF, in the Niger Delta.

The House is said to be investigating the alleged burning and destruction of equipment seized from illegal refinery operators in the area by the task force.

Speaking with journalist on the investigation in Abuja, Mr Sule Garo, Chairman, Ad hoc Committee on Illegal Refineries, noted that the House was worried about the environment.

He stated that the intention of the House was to bring to an end the despoliation of the Niger Delta environment through burning of equipment confiscated from illegal operators of refineries.

Garo, further disclosed that stakeholders in the oil sector like, JTF, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, as well as affected communities have been invited to testify during the investigating hearing.
