The House of Representatives has condemned in strong terms the Wednesday’s attack on the Senate by suspected thugs, who made away with the mace.

It described the incident as an “act of terrorism.”

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who led the lawmakers on solidarity march to the Senate, demanded for an immediate investigation into the incident.

DAILY POST reports that thugs suspected to be loyal to the suspended Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege had invaded the red chambers and forcefully taken away the mace.

They broke into the chambers when plenary was ongoing and snatched the mace amid serious confusion and tension.

Few minutes later, a prototype of the mace was brought into the hallowed chamber and the senate resumed sitting.

On resumption, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who was presiding, vowed that the Senate would never be intimidated in carrying out the constitutional duties for which they were voted.
