The member-elect of the House of Representatives for Abuja South Federal Constituency, Alhaji Zakari Angulu Dobi, said he is committed to working towards the declaration of mayoral status for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Dobi stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja, adding that the mayoral status will allow residents to be carried along in developmental strides of the city.
The Rep-elect also said that the original inhabitants of the FCT were treated badly by past administrations with their lands confiscated without proper relocation or compensation arrangements, adding that he is committed to working for the people by focusing on projects that will benefit natives and FCT residents.
He said: “I will put it upon myself to see that the proper thing is done. Something must be done to have the mayoral status in FCT. We are denied our right and we should make it known. It is glaring that we have challenges and I promise to work with the youths to tackle them.
“I will take the people’s problems to the government. We know that even though our lands have been taken from us, no proper arrangement have been made and government is not prepared to do anything.”
“I have served as a chairman at different times, even as opposition and I did well; it is all about taking your people serious and drawing them into the plan. Knowing fully well that I am working for the people and not for myself; and embarking on project the people will benefit them.”
Dobi therefore pledged to work towards leaving a legacy, saying he would do everything in his power to make sure that development is achieved in the constituency.
