Renaming of Ekiti versity: Ojo urges speedy ratification by N’ Assembly

Following to the renaming of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti after the late General Adeyinka Adebayo, a governorship hopeful in Ekiti State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), has urged the National Assembly to effect speedy ratification of the policy.

Ojo said the decision became imperative to avert unnecessary administrative and academic bottlenecks that could have pernicious consequences on the students and others in terms of documentations.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, had on Saturday during the funeral of General Adebayo in Iyin Ekiti, pronounced the renaming of the institution, established in 2011 under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in honour of the former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, Ojo applauded the swift action displayed by the federal government, saying General Adebayo had performed creditably well and deserved to be honourd to preserve his legacies and serve as impetus to the coming generations to imbibing patriotic zeal.

Ojo lamented how Ekiti State had been sparsely industrialized, saying such has been the impediment that has chiefly been blocking investors from being attracted to the state for meaningful businesses that can revamp and fortify the economy.

The governorship aspirant added that the only time well-meaning

Nigerians were being attracted to Ekiti was only when notable indigenes were being interred , describing this as a dangerous precedent and indication that the state’s tourist potential were under-utilised. “Ordinarily, Ekiti state supposed to be beehive of investors, because of its huge tourist potentials. The Ikogosi warm spring remains a global wonder that can fetch the state humongous financial benefits if well packaged and developed, but the reverse was the case.

“The Arinta Waterfall in Ipole Iloro, the Omi Erin in Erinjiyan Ekiti and other naturally endowed and attractive recreation centres that abound in the state were potentials that are wasting away. We must change our attitudes to governance or else our people will be the losers.

“When General Adebayo was to be buried, all the hotels in the state were fully booked by visitors, and this only happened sparingly and such situation is not good for our debilitating economy that required constant fortification .

“If successive administrations had paid attentions to the establishment of industries or development of tourist potentials , the situation would have been different and such patronage would not be occasional. That is why the state needs committed leader in 2018 andif given the opportunity, I would correct the anomaly and make Ekiti State a safe haven for investors”.

Ojo disclosed that he intended to inject many social amenities, tourist attractions, put in place infrastructure, and tap fully into his enormous business connections to boost the industrial potentials of the state if elected.
