Relocation of ESUT Campuses: PDP chieftain, Chinedu Eya begs Gov. Ugwuanyi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Chinedu Eya has commended the Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on his decision to return the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) to its original multi-campus structure.

He, however, begged the Governor to consider citing the faculties due to Enugu North Senatorial Zone in Igboeze North LGA, Uzo Uwani, Igboeze South or Udenu, so as to quicken development of the LGA’s.

Process is afoot to return the multi-campus structure as established by the Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo administration in 1980.

Chief Eya, a former Enugu North senatorial aspirant on the platform of PDP in the just concluded 2019 elections, said on Monday that Nsukka LGA does not need another higher institution in its environment, owing to the presence of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He noted that locating such important faculties in Igboeze North, Uzo Uwani, Igboeze South or Udenu LGA will complement government’s efforts to reduce crimes and insecurity in the areas to the barest minimum.

“I have said this countless times: that the people of our zone should be patient with Governor Ugwuanyi. He is a father who knows the heartbeat of every zone in the state; and who is ready to do anything to ensure that everyone is happy at the end of the day,” Gwiyi Solomon, Eya’s media adviser quoted him as saying in a statement.

“My only plea to the workaholic Governor is to pay special attention to places like Igboeze North LGA, Uzo Uwani and Udenu during the citing of the projects, so as to help in tackling the rate of crimes, insecurity and general underdevelopment bedeviling the areas; for rapid developments,” he added.

Chief Eya further expressed excitement that the Governor is living true to his promises, made before and after his reelection that “no part of Enugu State would be left behind in the growth and development of Enugu state; under his stewardship.”

DAILY POST recalls that the Enugu State Executive Council had on the 15th of May 2019, voted to return the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) to its original multi-campus structure of 1980s, with three schools originally proposed for Enugu North Senatorial Zone – faculties of Medical Sciences, Agriculture, and Social Sciences – returned to the Zone, while the ESUT Faculty of Education will relocate to Enugu West, to be domiciled at the new University of Education, Ihe, in Awgu Local Government.
