Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has insisted that it was his team’s performance and not poor refereeing, that helped them beat Bayern Munich 4-2 in extra-time of their second leg Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday .
Bayern dominated the game at the Santiago Bernabeu, until referee Victor Kassai sent off Arturo Vidal for what looked like a very harsh yellow card.
The Hungarian failed to send off Madrid’s Casemiro. Ronaldo also looked offside as he knocked in the goal that poved decisive in the tie.
Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti was very critical of Kassai’s performance and called on UEFA to video assistant technology.
“I don’t know,” Zidane said when asked about VAR after the match.
“The referee’s work is very, very difficult, I do not get into that. They have told me [Bayern’s] second goal was also offside. It goes both ways, that is football.
“More than the second yellow, or the offside goals, the six goals we scored over the two games we deserved to go through in the tie. There is no luck in football, you must win, and we won both games.”
