Referee Anthony Taylor has said sorry to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, for showing Cesc Fabregas a yellow card for diving, in their 1-1 draw at Southampton on Sunday.
Fabregas went down under a challenge inside the box, but Taylor opted to book the midfielder for simulation instead of awarding a penalty.
However, it has now emerged that he apologized to Mourinho about the incident, before they both left St Mary’s.
It is unusual for an official to offer his apologies to a manager so soon after a match, but they are allowed to discuss decisions after a 30-minute ‘cooling-off period’.
The gesture did not seem to pacify the Portuguese manager, as he ranted afterwards about a campaign against Chelsea and also said Taylor would be ‘ashamed’ of his decision.
